MUSCAT GIN by Still & Stem is a distinctly local gin that celebrates the region of North East Victoria. This small-batch fruit gin invites you to amble through the scented forests of the Victorian High Country and among the sunny grapevines of Rutherglen. The inaugural 2021 batch was made by steeping handpicked Rutherglen Brown Muscat grapes in Backwoods’ award-winning High Country Gin, before basket pressing.
The gin harmoniously combines local botanicals of strawberry gum, peppermint gum and wattle seed with muscat’s delicate rose water and musk characters, luscious mouthfeel and length of flavour.
The seed of the Still & Stem collaboration came about at a winery liquidation sale, at which distiller Leigh (Backwoods) and winemaker Rowly (Scion) bid against each other for second-hand wine barrels. Leigh sought the barrels for whisky maturation; Rowly, for wine. Despite the contest, friendship ensued, alongside a vision for creative collaboration.
