1 x Durif Viognier 2014 - Gold medal

Winemaker Rowly has released just a dozen of these from his cellar to share around.

Inspired by Northern Rhone reds, Durif Viognier is medium bodied and textural. Co-fermented with a touch of Viognier to soften the wine's tannins, the resulting style is a fine, delicate and aromatic style of Durif.

Rowly Milhinch doesn't care much for convention, it seems, the unique blending of Durif and Viognier results in a chewy wine of freshness and vitality, deep-fruited but floral, and surprisingly vital on its feet. Good drinking to be had with curious (rewarding) personality. 92 points

It’s fresh. There some muscle to the tannin but most especially the wine is fresh and elegant. It feels pure. It has depth but it doesn’t feel heavy. Blackberry, dry liquorice, dark earth, florals... Now or in ten year’s time, you’ll be handsomely rewarded. There aren’t too many wines you can say that of. This is pretty spiffy.

...Vigneron Rowly Milhinch has made the traditional image of Durif stand on its head. It's vibrant and fresh, imposing red nuances in the foundation of dark berry fruit flavours. Its balance is such that you can enjoy it now or in ten years. 94 points
